In our high school biology class, we all studied the phylum Mollusca and then promptly forgot about it. However, we never once attempted to approximate the actual size of some species within this phylum. Ammonites were a type of cephalopod that inhabited shells and became extinct about a millennium ago. However, observing their enormity can serve as a sobering reminder of reality and inspire gratitude for not having lived during their time.
