9. Deception Pass, Washington

The Deception Pass Bridge links Whidbey and Fidalgo Islands in Washington State. Named after Captain George Vancouver's navigational mistake in 1792, the bridge spans a dramatic strait famous for powerful tidal currents and churning waters. With two spans climbing 180 feet (55 meters) above the water, the bridge provides magnificent views of the San Juan Islands and Puget Sound. Windy conditions and fog can make the crossing feel even more dramatic. Built in 1935, the bridge is now a cherished landmark, attracting visitors to discover the surrounding natural splendor.
